SYNOD OF BISHOPS: MSGR. RAVASI, "LET THE GREAT WORDS RESOUND IN THE WORLD"

"The whole novelty of this Synod is the attempt to draw up a map depicting the dimensions concerning the Word of God". Those words were spoken today by Msgr Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Commission for the Message of the XII General Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. He was presenting journalists with "the message to the people of God by the bishops". "On one hand, in the past, they tended to talk about the Scripture in its existential dimensions of truth or tradition; on the other hand, now they are trying to take the dimensions of the Word back into one perspective, a sole map". "It is a matter of looking at the world with sympathy – added Msgr. Santiago Jaime Silva Retamales, vice president of the Commission for the Message, – offering the world the best of us, taking the Church to the people, giving the richness of truth to a world where humanity is getting scarcer and scarcer". "Today’s people – stated Msgr. Ravasi – should talk again by using great words such as the Bible, for instance, as well as the Holy Comedy, which need interpretation to avoid the risk of fundamentalism". (To be continued)
