The fact that it is unjust to treat human beings produced in vitro as "mere products obtained for the instrumental domination of technicians" has been underlined in a document of the plenary assembly of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference dated 30th March 2006. Considering the techniques used in the case of the child born on 12th October, the same document pointed out that the justifications put forward to use these techniques "are unacceptable." "We certainly have to cure people who are ill, but without eliminating anyone," reads the document. If we have to be sympathetic with someone, we shall start by respecting everyone’s rights, namely the life of every person, either healthy or ill. "The positive fact of a healthy baby being born cannot justify the manipulation he has undergone nor can it present as a "progress" a eugenic practice that has led to the destruction of the baby’s brothers generated in vitro. "The Church is willing to lend her voice to those who do not have it and has been denied the fundamental right to live," reads the end of the advisory. By these clarifications, we are not passing judgments on anyone’s conscience or intention." "We are rather trying to recall objective ethic principles which are protecting the dignity of every human being."
