To give boys and girls from all over Europe the opportunity to share different opinions, cultures and traditions. This is the purpose of the Roverway, a European scout event organised by the international organisations Wosm and Wagggs, and in Italy by Federazione italiana dello Scautismo (Fis), to promote exchanges between young scouts aged 16 to 22, that is, that age range that Robert Baden-Powell, founder of Scoutism, named the Rovers. After the 2003 experience in Portugal and the one in Italy in 2006, in 2009 the Roverway will be hosted by the Icelandic Scouts from July 20th to 28th at the Ulfljotsvatn Scout Centre, in the south-west of Iceland, in the usual way, with a travelling first part (Journey), and a final part in a fixed place (Althingi). Althingi used to be the Council of the inhabitants of Iceland. At this meeting, each tribe used to give its contribution, and the tribes moved from their villages to go to the meeting point through adventurous journeys. At the Roverway 2009 too, then there will be a few days to be lived in small international groups to get to know each other and discuss issues that interest the young, and a few days where they will share, all together, the experiences they have lived and look at tomorrow’s challenges.
