“The works of the Synod pointed out all the Church’s interest in other religions with important ‘holy books’ for the followers of those faiths”. Msgr. Luis Antonio G. Tagle, bishop of Imus, Philippines, said that by answering a question about interreligious dialogue, especially in the Asian continent, during the press conference. “As for the Church, it respects the holy books of other religions very much he added, and of course, the interreligious dialogue will be valid and fruitful if the other religions have the same attitude toward the Catholic Church and our Holy Book, the Bible”. “We must recall he added later on that Christianity is not ‘a religion of the book’, but is based on one person, Jesus Christ, and thus, our religion is beyond the Holy Scripture, under a certain point of view”. On the same subject, the African cardinal Peter Kodwo A. Turkson added that “it is true that we Christians do respect and understand other religions, but we also have to question them, and ourselves, too. Just by deepening mutual knowledge dialogue will be able to pass limits and be very fruitful”.
