"Bringing businessmen closer to the EU officers to improve their mutual understanding" and to strengthen cooperation between the EU institutions and the economic fabric, partly through the mediation of the Chambers of Commerce. These are the goals of the first European Business Parliament due to take place today in the EU Brussels premises. It will be attended by "over 750 businessmen and corporate managers who will make their voices heard on some contingent economic issues" and will discuss three major problems: markets without frontiers (international competition); how to face energy and environmental challenges; how to promote entrepreneurship in Europe. The event, jointly promoted by the EU and Eurochambres (Association of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the member states), will be opened by Hans-Gert Poettering, president of the European Parliament, José Manuel Barroso, head of the EU Commission, Hervé Novelli, French Secretary of State for Trade and Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses, and Pierre Simon, president of Eurochambres.
