Jews and Christians "are both Abraham’s children": that’s why "dialogue with the Jews needs special attention" and above all "any form of anti-Semitism needs to be overcome". This was said by mgr. Stanislaw Gadecki, archbishop of Poznàn (Poland), as he spoke to the General Congregation of the Episcopal Synod that took place in the Vatican this morning. The news was given today to the Italian-speaking press by father Giorgio Costantino, during a briefing in the Vatican newsroom at the end of the synodal session. The Polish Bishop mentioned no. 55 of the Instrumentum laboris, which speaks of "Christ’s life-saving uniqueness and universality in front of the Jewish people". A subject, this one, that had also been covered by the Dominus Iesus, where instead, according to mgr. Gadecki, attention was more focussed on the "relativistic theories widespread among the Christian theologians". "That of the relations between Catholic and Jews pointed out the prelate is not a subset of relations between religions, either in theory or in practice. Hebraism has a unique place among the religions of the world". That’s why, he concluded, "there cannot be a simple coexistence between Jews and Christians; two peoples that are "deeply bonded to each other".
