In the first part of his speech to the U.N., Mgr Migliore blamed the "unsolvable conflicts in many regions of the world" which seem to perpetuate the conviction that "violence and war can take the place of cooperation and dialogue in the achievement of the common good," an achievement that has still many obstacles on its path. Quoting Paul VI "development is the new name for peace", the Holy See representative highlighted the urgency of "focusing on the causes" of the conflicts. After acknowledging "our numerous itches in our efforts to globalise solidarity towards the poor," Mgr. Migliore expressed the wish that "the next conference on Financing for Development to be held in Doha will give the international community the chance to strengthen the promises and the cooperation between developed and developing countries. ” “
