COUNCIL OF EUROPE: IN STRASBOURG, FORUM ON EDUCATION TO CITIZENSHIP AND HUMAN RIGHTS

"Civic partnerships for education to citizenship and human rights" is the theme of the Forum that the Council of Europe will hold in Strasbourg on October 9th and 10th. "The Forum – states a note from the CoE – is part of the project of the Council of Europe for education to democratic citizenship and human rights (Edc/Hre), aimed to promote human rights, democracy and the constitutional state through education". To achieve this, according to the CoE, it is essential to set up "partnerships between governments, regional and the local authorities, and civilian organisations". The purpose of the Forum is to "outline recommendations on how to develop and support civic partnerships for Edc/Hre at a national and European level". In addition, the meeting should promote the establishment of a network of civilian organisations working in this area. Promoted as part of the Swedish presidency of the Committee of Ministers, the Forum will be attended by over 150 delegates from the countries that signed the European Cultural Convention, and from international and civil organisations. Thomas Hammarberg, human rights commissioner at the CoE, will give a speech on October 10th.
