"Despite the homely has been rearranged at the Council, many believers are still dissatisfied with the ministry of preaching," said cardinal Ouellet, general speaker at the Synod, in his opening address. "This dissatisfaction is the reason why many Catholics have left for other religious groups. To fill in the gaps in preaching, we know that giving priority to the Word of God is not enough inasmuch it has to be rightly interpreted in the mystagogic context of Liturgy," he added. It is not even enough to turn to exegesis or to use new pedagogic or technological equipment. Nor is it enough that the personal life of the minister be in deep harmony with the announced Word. All this is extremely important but can remain something extrinsic to the fulfilment of Christ’s Pascal mystery." Cardinal Ouellet then asked himself: « How can homilists be helped in establishing relations between life, the Word and this eschatologic event that breaks into the assembly?
