CCEE: A SURVEY ON THE TEACHING OF CATHOLIC RELIGION, A RESOURCE FOR EUROPE (2)

The collection of basic data, thoughts and evaluations was promoted by the Churches involved in the project. A document was then prepared to summarise the conclusions of the survey. Besides enumerating some principles shared by the representatives of the European Churches, the text gathers reflections and issues resulting from the survey. In particular, it focuses on the commitment to the teaching of religion in schools, which is seen as a resource for young generations and for the construction of the European society. The research material is now being published on a multilingual CD as well as on an Italian text. In this way, the survey results will be made available to the CCEE and to the European Churches. Nevertheless, the research is not meant to be an ending point. It is rather the starting point of a cooperation between all the churches, to reinvigorate their commitment to evangelisation and to develop the human personality through the teaching of religion in schools. In the future, the idea, which is presently under study, is to hold seminars and workshops to debate the results of the survey (i.e. the issue of school teachings and catechesis, the issue of the IRC "juridical coverage" in different countries, the issue of ecumenical cooperation, etc.). ” “
