(From our correspondent SirEuropa in Esztergom Hungary) – "Africa’s need for God must inspire Europe, and the European rejection of the ‘deus ex machina’ must inspire the religious feeling of the Africans": according to card. Polycarp Pengo, archbishop of Dar Es Salaam and president of Secam, who spoke last night at the plenary meeting of Ccee in Esztergom (Hungary), this is a "necessary cooperation between Africa and the European bishops". Hence the importance the prelate attaches to "true African missionaries evangelising Europe, while European technology and scientific knowledge" must be "grafted and developed in Africa". On the contrary, "in its multiple material and spiritual needs, an African cannot afford to ignore the reality of God", which thus becomes for him "a sort of ‘stopgap’", to be set aside if it fails to promptly fulfil his needs. Hence the widespread phenomenon "of ‘Sunday morning Christianity’ and the weekday practice of sorcery and witchcraft". (continued)
