The OECD "is in favour of adopting a plan for saving the American financial system": a support to the plan submitted by the US Administration of President Bush came today from Strasbourg, through Angel Gurría, secretary general of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. "I have no doubts stated the Mexican economist to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that the US legislators will reach an agreement". Gurría added that, because of the difficult international economic period, "Europe too might need such a plan". So the Strasbourg floor resounded with the speech given by Mehmet Ali Talat, leader of the Turkish Cypriot community (yesterday, PACE had listened to the Cypriot president Dimitris Christofias), who stated: "This Assembly is the first international Parliament to open its doors to the elected representatives of the Turkish Cypriot people. Considering we said yes to the referendum on the UN regulation Plan aimed to solve Cyprus’ problem, since 2005 you have been offering us a chance to put an end to our long political seclusion".
