No other sickness causes mortality or children diseases to such extent as malnutrition, leading to death 3.5 million children under 5 in developing countries every year. Anyway, the programmes to avoid children getting to the final stages of malnutrition did not actually change in the last thirty years. "Doctors Without Borders decided to treat malnourished children with some food with animal origin, and we are currently working to reach a more complete application", said Von Schoen-Angerer. "We hope that clear indications by these experts will lead to a drastic reduction of useless deaths due to malnutrition". The United Nations have already issued clear recommendations about the treatment of serious acute malnutrition, but just 5% of the children in need receive adequate treatment. DWB believes that the challenge is treating children with food with high nutritional values before they get irreparably ill.
