(Patrizia Caiffa, Sir correspondent in Paris) – In some democratic countries, first and foremost in the United States, dangerous attempts are being made to legitimate torture, actually setting it in a legal framework that makes it legal: the alarm has been given in Paris today by Sylvie Bukhari-De-Pontual, lawyer, director of a master course at the Catholic Institute and president of the International federation of the Christian action for the abolition of torture (Fiacat), during the university talks on human dignity, promoted by the Faculty of Social and Economic Science of the Catholic Institute of Paris and by "Justice and Peace" France. While two thirds of the world still practice torture, after 9/11, despite the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 1984 International Convention against Torture, even the most democratic countries (such as the United states, Great Britain and Germany) are legitimating torture again in public speeches, especially in the academic sphere and on the mass media. “They are trying to insure the public opinion to playing down the deeds of torture committed on alleged terrorists explained the president of Fiacat , thus diminishing shame for what is committed in the name of the community”.
