"Our faith is not born of a myth or an idea but of the encounter with the Resurrected in the life of the Church". With these words the Pope ended today the catechesis for the general audience that took place in Saint Peter’s Square before about 15 thousand people, about the "relationship" between Saint Paul and the Apostles "who preceded him in following Jesus", whom he frequented and "consulted" in the three years that followed the episode of the conversion on the road to Damascus. "The more we try to trace Jesus’ footsteps through the roads of Galilee said Benedict XVI , the better we understand that He took over our humanity, sharing it in everything, except in sin". A belief, this one, that has been personally experienced and testified by Paul in the "importance" he attaches to the "live tradition of the Church". From this perspective, specified the Holy Father, "the view that Paul would be responsible for inventing Christianity is wrong: before evangelising, he met Christ on the road to Damascus and frequented Him in the Church, observing Him in the life of the Apostles and in those who followed Him on the roads of Galilee".
