RIGHTS: PROTECTING CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS, A EU CONTEST

"Protecting and making children’s rights better known, especially the right to protection that is enjoyed by all the children and teenagers who are nationals or residents of the EU, are goals that are shared" by the EU and the member states: Jacques Barrot, deputy president of the EU Commission, launches again the contest for young people for creating a poster for the campaign about the protection of children’s rights. The initiative concerns the establishment of 4-member teams divided into age groups of 10 to 14 or 15 to 18 years of age, who should create an A2-size poster. "The focus of this year’s contest is the idea that children are entitled to be protected from abuse and ill-treatment. Entrants must submit a poster that aptly conveys such message". The EU Executive developed some guiding questions: what does the right to protection mean? In what circumstances do the young need to be protected (home, school, play, TV, the Internet…)? How can we help ensure all young people are protected? Entries must be sent in by 31st October 2008. Entries will be selected nationwide, then Europe-wide. Awards will be given in Brussels in December. For info, visit the website at www.europayouth.eu.
