After 13 years spent serving the Church and Europe as a secretary general of the Council of European Bishops Conferences (Ccee), from today mgr. Aldo Giordano will be the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Council of Europe (CoE) in Strasbourg, the members of which are the 47 democratic states of Europe. In seeing off those people who worked with him in Saint Gaul (in Switzerland, where the Ccee is based), mgr. Giordano went over these 13 years and said: "A sentence spoken by Christ Resurrected has always been with me all these years: ‘I will go to Galilee before you’. Whenever I had to leave for some journey or meeting, I have always liked, and I have always been greatly comforted by, thinking Christ Resurrected had already gone where I was going myself". "Even my appointment as the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the Council of Europe has been a new, entirely unexpected surprise. But now I am glad to think the Resurrected has gone to Strasbourg before me". Of the challenges that await him, Giordano points out "the urgency of re-proposing to Europe the true face of Christianity, because too many masks of it have been around over these years".
