Peace in Colombia: Special meeting of Bishops Conference. “Based on dialogue and mutual respect”

The Colombian bishops will be meeting in the premises of the Bishops Conference (Cec) in Bogotá today and tomorrow for a special meeting to get an insight into the country’s present situation after the victory of votes against, at the referendum about the peace treaty between the Government and Farc and the opening of the negotiations with the other guerrilla group, ELN. The general secretary of Cec, mgr. Elkin Fernando Álvarez, auxiliary bishop of Medellín, asked all Colombian devotees to support the meeting with their prayers, “so that God may enlighten us with His Holy Spirit and so we can provide guidelines that will help Colombians to build peace, always based on dialogue and mutual respect”. In the last few days, the Bishops Conference had announced that five bishops from areas that are particularly affected by this guerrilla group will be taking part in the negotiations between the Government and ELN, starting in Quito on 4th November, as a “supportive” party to the negotiations.
