(Brussels) The president of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, “welcomed the approval” by the plenary assembly of three reports, submitted by Guy Verhofstadt, Mercedes Bresso, Elmar Brok, Reimer Böge and Pervenche Berès, respectively, about the future of the European Union. This is about the vote cast at the plenary session in Strasbourg yesterday. According to Tajani, “we must bring Europe closer to its citizens. The EU Parliament’s position about the future of Europe is clear: the European Union must fulfil the citizens’ concerns and provide more effective results”. The European Parliament “is the pivot of such commitment to strengthening Europe to make it more effective. We are people’s voice and we must make sure citizens are at the centre of the European project”. The three reports describe – in a non-legislative resolution – some reforms and policies that are expected to fill the gap between citizens and EU and revive the EU institutions’ efforts. “We must capitalise – Tajani comments – on the successes of the last sixty years, but we must learn from our mistakes. We must change Europe, not weaken it. We must do it for ourselves and for the future generations, who deserve a safer, more prosperous and sustainable Europe that can establish itself as a global leader and defend our values across the world”.
