OPEN LETTER
The bishop of the diocese of Aveiro wrote a Pastoral Note about the fires that devastated Portugal, asking the congregaton to “make efforts to soothe the pain of the many families that have been hit”. The document, addressed by mgr. António Moiteiro to the congregation, called “Giving a hand to be many”, actually calls on the generosity of all Christians and lists some concrete ways to help the populations. In particular, the bishop thinks that, “right now help should be focussed on solving the most urgent needs of those who have lost all they had, and above all those of some of their family members”. All rescue operations are coordinated by the diocesan Caritas of Aveiro, and the raised funds are put on a bank account in the name of the “Diocesan Social Emergency Fund”.
