WYD 2019
(Bratislava) – Almost 3,000 young people registered for the National Youth Day 2018 in Presov during the first month after the opening of registration. The event is planned for 26-29 July. “I invite all the boys and girls to Presov. It will be the place of an awesome spiritual gathering and what is more, it will mark the official start of the campaign inviting Slovak youth to WYD 2019 in Panama”, explains Fr. Ondrej Chrvala, secretary of the Council for Youth and Universities of the Bishops’ Conference. Most of the youth who have already registered are 17-18 year olds. “This is a very important target group and it is extraordinary to see how they live their faith, interact with each other and develop their spiritual life, which will be the axis around which their future will revolve”, say the organizers, inspired by the experience of past national youth gatherings in Ruzomberok and Poprad. Although the registration was officially opened at the end of January, young people have been preparing for NYD since September 2017 with a series of monthly catecheses dedicated to various aspects of “courage” prepared by a special team of experienced lecturers. Each month they choose one figure in the Gospel of John who was courageous in some way, setting an example for youth to better identify with the virtue of courage in their own personal life.
