European Parliament: terrorism, EU responses at the site of the institution

(Brussels) “Attacks in big European cities have deeply shocked citizens, pointing out the weak points of our societies. The European Parliament is committed to adopting key rules to prevent and fight terrorism”. It is said at the site of the institution, www.europarl.europa.eu, in a short dossier recalling the initiatives promoted by EU institutions to fight terrorism: “To fight terrorism, it is necessary to oppose foreign fighters, cut financial resources, and strengthen border controls”. Security “is a subject European citizens are much concerned about: 80% of them would like the EU to fight terrorism to a greater extent. Terrorism has no borders, and that is clear for anyone by now: citizens as well as EU politicians”. The measures taken by the EU “to prevent new attacks include a wide range of actions such as more accurate border controls, higher judiciary and police cooperation to identify suspicious subjects and prosecute criminals, cutting terrorism financing, and struggling against organised crime and radicalisation phenomena”. The online dossier includes explanation of legislative and political measures, videos, and infographics.
