XX WYD: EVEN YOUNGSTERS FROM PARAGUAY AND TANZANIA IN COLOGNE

German, English, French, Spanish Italian: these are some of the languages that can be heard, if one walks in the square of the Cathedral of Cologne. Pilgrims, tourists, but above all voluntary workers from all over the world. Fabiola Barnos, 29 years old from San Lorenzo, in Paraguay, with her friend Leticia Alderete, 24 years old, arrived a few days ago in Cologne. They speak little English, but are full of enthusiasm. "It was a friend who advised me to come – admits Barnos –. I was afraid about the lack knowledge of the language. He told me that they needed responsable people like me. And I am happy to do my bit". Fabiola is a nurse in San Lorenzo; here she will lend a hand in welcoming some 300 pilgrims from Paraguay. Monsignor Adalberto Martinez Florez will be arriving here one of these days. He is the delegate bishop of CELAM (Episcopal Conference of Latin America) for youth pastoral care. Sister Lula, ("Pearl" in English), 40 years old, Erick, 19 years old, and Subira, 24 years old, are arriving from the parish of Ligunga, in Tanzania. We are "happy – they say – to be here and to get to know young people from all around the world".
