” “15,000 young people of all nationalities will join hands to form a long human chain to cry out a message of peace to the world. This is the "Welcome to the world" initiative organized by the Diocese of Munster within the framework of the 20th World Youth Day. The appointment has been fixed at 1 p.m. for a huge picnic on the Medieval walls that surround the ancient town of Munster, famous for having hosted the signing of the "Westfalia Peace" in 1648 which gave Europe fifty years of peace after thirty years of harsh war. For this reason Munster means to be the town from which the youth of the WYD will cry out their request for peace. And then at 2 p.m. the 15000 youth coming from 64 Countries of the world will take each other by the hand to form a huge human chain around the city walls. The signal will be the moment when all the bells of the town start chiming. Then five young representatives of the five Continents will draw up a message that will be signed also by all the other participants. Music, gospel music, and cultural activities will enrich the event which will be concluded with the blessings of the Bishop of the diocese Msgr. Munster Reinhard Lettman.
