XX WYD: FROM NEW YORK TO COLOGNE "WITH THE JOY OF SHARING A SINGLE FAITH"

During the period of the twinning with the German dioceses, the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor of Aquisgrana (Aachen), whose founder is Mother Frances Schervier are hosting young people coming from all over the world (United States, Brazil, Senegal, Italy …): "These young people do not speak the same language – point out the religious sisters – but the language barriers are overcome because they all have the same faith in common and the same joy of wanting to share it with others". Sister Armida Sison belongs to the same order and she comes from New York. She is the leader of a group of 16 U.S. girls: "Being in contact with young people from around the world is a very enriching experience for me – she says – this multicultural experience is wonderful because young people who come from countries that are geographically distant from one another, find that they are closely attuned through the same faith". Sister Armida knows young people very well: in St- Patrick’s parish in Brooklyn, she takes care of a group of teenagers. "Twenty-two of them are leaving today for Cologne", says the religious. The trouble in the United States is that young people do not frequently attend parish activities". In order to bring them closer to the life of the church, Sister Armida and the other pastoral workers involve them in volunteer and solidarity activities, like the parish job center (a point of reference for finding a job), or visiting the elderly people of the parish.
