XX WYD: ELISABETH KRÄMER, STUDENT OF EDITH STEIN, WILL MEET THE POPE IN COLOGNE

Elisabeth Krämer, student of Edith Stein, one of the patrons of the WYD will meet Pope Beneditc XVI in the Cologne Cathedral on Thursday 18th August during the 20th World Youth Day. The Pontiff will greet together with her a young 12 year old girl who is seriously ill. This news was confirmed by Monsignor Helmut Moll of the archdiocese of Cologne,  who is theological councillor for the Congregation of Causes of Saints, deputy-postulator of the cause of Edith Stein and of Nicolas Gross, who have already been canonized by Pope Wojtyla. Monsignor Moll is also the author of the German Martyrology of the 20th century, including the biography of over 700 figures, as well as curator of an exhibition, divided into 4 sections, which will be inaugurated this afternoon in the church of Saint Ursula in the Rhine city. Christian martyrs are the theme of the exhibition, amongst whom also 57 young people between 16 and 30 years of age, who lost their lives because of their faith, in particular under the Nazi regime. Elisabeth  Krämer is one of the eye witnesses  who will tell (translations in five languages) the stories of these persecuted people. She was the student of Stein at the time of the courses taught at the  Speyer Institute in the current Rhine-Palatinate, in the convent of the Domenican Sisters called St. Magdalene. "Our society – said Monsignor Moll at SIR – is poor in christian models and for this reason we need figures who are examples of faith, hope and charity. These martyrs are authentic models of faith, who have something to convey to all our young people. Events, such as the ones of the WYD, are privileged moments to show that one can be witnesses of faith also when one is young".
