XX WYD: REGISTERED PILGRIMS ARE 405,118. 79.2% ARE FROM EUROPE

” “Italians make up the largest group of boys and girls attending the WYD 2005, with 101,174 pilgrims. They are going to Germany by plane, train (19 special trains) and bus. Overall – said the WYD Press Office  – the registered pilgrims are 405,118, 280,404 of which are aged 18 to 27 and come from 197 different countries, such as Ivory Coast, Georgia, Haiti, Palestine, Taiwan. 79.2% come from Europe; 3% from Asia, 2.3% from Africa, 8.9% from North America, 21.8% from Central America, 3.4% from South America and 0.8% from Oceania. The second largest group comes, of course, from Germany, with 83,929 people, followed by France (38,549), Spain (31,908) and the United States (24,237). Volunteers are 27,000, from 120 different countries: 25,000 are aged 16 to 30 but there is also a volunteer lady from Cologne who is 82 years old.(to be continued)
