In silence in front of the pictures of Pope John Paul II. Only the music of "Totus tuus" for the over 20 thousand young people filled the Düsseldorf stadium. And after the silence, hellos and songs of joy by the youngsters who rushed there for the 20th World Youth Day who with the celebration, which had just begun, will have its official beginning on the border of the pitch, other young people carry flags from about 200 nations who are taking part in the WYD. Almost in response just as many flags wave between the steps in the stadium, between whistling,applauding and camera flashes going off to immortalize the event. The opening Mass of the WYD is taking place at the same time also in the stadiums of Bonn and Cologne, whose pictures are being broadcast on maxiscreens. This is a new performance for the stadium which hosts the football matches of "Fortuna", the Düsseldorf team.
