XX WYD: CATECHESIS. MGR. MARTINEZ FERNANDEZ (SPAIN), THE CHURCH TAKES SERIOUSLY YOUR WISH FOR INFINITY

” “"The only answer to the restlessness of the young is Christ, do not stop following your hearts and do not overlook the wish for a bigger life, free from the lies of consumption society". This was the deeply-felt advice of the archbishop of Granada, mgr. Francisco Javier Martinez Fernandez, during the catechesis to the young Spanish (part of the about 60,000 who have come for the WYD) that have gathered today in the Church of St. Hedwig in Cologne. A three-stage catechesis, which has stirred the feelings and the emotions of the Spanish (who have been joined by many Latinos) who took part in the event, alternating attention, applauses and cheers between one pause and the next. "Our heart never stops wishing for something greater and greater – said the archbishop to the young people as he spoke off the cuff -. If you follow this wish for infinity, you find truth because the heart is not made for shallow things but for God. The Church takes your heart seriously". Words that have been enthusiastically welcomed by the young: Lola Gomelda Aguero, 30, from Madrid, is crying "Well done, well done!" all the time.
