This morning, four thousand people filled up the Cologne Palladium to attend the catechesis in French by Mgr André Vingt-Trois, archbishop of Paris. They were young people from France, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg. They listened to the words of the archbishop, stopping him with frequent applauses at the most powerful times of his speech. The archbishop invited the young to have, just like the great saints of the Church, John Paul II, Karl Rahner, Von Balthasar, Santa Teresa of Avila, "a passion for seeking the truth and communicating it to their peers". The catechesis was followed by a lively question and answer session between the bishop and the young. They asked him "whether one can get to know God, where they can find true happiness, whether Christianity is the only religion to have the truth…". "Happiness replied the archbishop must be sought, but this search must be addressed to someone who can fulfil it. Only God can fill up any emptiness, any thirst for infinity. The Church does not claim to have any exclusive right, but it demands to be the witness of God and His Word".
