” “The spirit of Torvergata 2000 is relived in the streets of Cologne, where thousands of young people have been in procession since this morning to reach the Cathedral and visit the relics of the Magi, the Three Wise Kings, thus forming long processions. Once they arrived in the square, they exploded into circles, cries of greeting, and the sounds of drums. There were many national hymns and flags from all over the world. Angola, Mexico, Syria, Chile… An unrestrainable crowd which had also drawn the surprised attention of the shop keepers and business people in the area who came out into the streets to watch the scene. The helicopters and the police on their cycles constantly watch the situation. The entrance into the Cathedral is checked by volunteers who separate the pilgrims from the journalists and tourists. The procession advances swiftly with just enough time to take a photo and then go towards the exit. A small group from Angola stood around curious in front of the tomb of Godfrey IV whilst some bishops were praying in the reserved area in front of the precious box in gold which contains the relics. On returning to the square, the young people who were really tired stopped and collapsed onto the benches in a small garden in front of the cathedral. The others continued on into the festivities.
