XX WYD: THE ASSASSINATION OF FRÈRE ROGER. CARDINAL MEISNER PRAYS WITH THE COMMUNITY OF TAIZÉ GATHERED AT ST.AGNES (COLOGNE)

Cardinal Joachim Meisner, too, archbishop of Cologne, is praying with the young people from Taizé, after coming, along with the people in charge of the WYD, this afternoon to give his last symbolic respects to frère Roger in the church of St. Agnes, which in Cologne hosts the prayers of the Community three times a day. Cardinal Meisner stayed a long time on his knees, in the centre of the Church, surrounded by silence, candles and many young people kneeling down and singing the songs of Taizé. Then, at the back of a long procession of alter boys dressed in red, he went back to the church entrance to sign the Book of Condolence, placed besides a photo of frère Roger surrounded by children from all over the world. "You have gone through death and the transition from one world to another – wrote Meisner in German, amidst a throng of video cameras and photographers -. Now, frère Roger, you are in good hands, and you can lay your hands from heaven on the young". Amidst many respects and thanks from young and adults, the one of the bishop of Rotterdam, Adrian van Luyn, in French: "I thank you so much, frère Roger, for all you have done for the young of the world".
