XX WYD: CATECHESIS. MGR. MARTIN (IRELAND), PRAYING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM THE WORLD

"Recognising and adoring Christ. This is the challenge thrown at us not just over these days of celebrations and prayer, but throughout the rest of our lives". This was recalled today by the primate of Ireland and archbishop of Dublin, mgr. Diarmuid Martin. In his catechesis about "Encountering Christ in the Eucharist", addressed to Irish boys and girls (about 2,000 have arrived in Cologne), mgr. Martin recalledthat "there is no Church without an Eucharist. It is in the Church, the fruit of God’s action, that we are raised in the likeness of Christ, who comes to rescue us". The constituent parts of being a Church – highlighted mgr. Martin – "are the Eucharist and the Sacraments". "Our communities – he added – include people who are sceptical or in search. The challenge is to give them the certainty that every day we walk towards Christ". The archbishop ended the catechesis with am invitation to pray: "Praying is not an escape from the world, but the moment in which we recognise Christ as the basic reality and the priority of our life. Praying is important and gives a meaning to our life".
