XX WYD: THOUSANDS OF POLICE TO GUARANTEE SECURITY

"There were more than 400 thousand pilgrims who were waiting at the Cologne airport for the arrival of Pope Benedict XVI for the 20th World Youth Day". This was disclosed by the Press Office of the 20th WYD, who informed: "The level of security in the city has increased for his visit,bringing it to its highest level. Thousands of police have been put on duty in order to guarantee security both for the Pontiff and for pilgrims. Closed air space over the city of Cologne was ordered for the arrival of the Pope.  Bridges have also been closed". In the afternoon Pope Benedict XVI will go for a ride in a boat on the Rhine and over 100 thousands pilgrims are waiting for him on the banks of the river in an area called Pollerwiesen. At the end of this, the Pope will visit the cathedral and will make a speech in the neighbouring square Roncalli.
