XX WYD: YOUNG CROATIANS: EUROPE’S ROLE IS FUNDAMENTAL FOR PEACE IN THE WORLD. AWAITING THE MEETING WITH THE POPE

"Words of hope and encouragement, love towards others": this is the message young people from Croatia expect from the Pope, who arrived in Cologne today. Whilst emotion and waiting for this first meeting with Pope Benedict XVI, the 3 thousand Croatians, who are taking part in the WYD, met this morning in the church of Saint Maximilian Kolbe in Cologne, to listen to the catechesis by Cardinal Josip Bozanic, Vice President of the Council of European Bishops’Conference. Sir Nikolina Haraminec, Valentina Sola and Olja Radic, 17 year old students from Bjelovar said "Europe can have a fundamental role to stop war in the world, but what is necessary is greater unity in international politics in order to have more of a say". Meetings such as the WYD, added the girls, "can contribute towards increasing harmony among young people from different countries: this is what gives hope for a better future". (continues)
