Over 800 thousand are expected and a total area of 152 hectares has been set up for them. The young people who are flowing into Marienfeld will find an impressive structure to welcome them. Just some figures to show dimensions: 50 kilometres of provisional roads 4.5 to 6.5 metres wide. They all lead towards "The Pope’s hill" built with 80 thousand square metres of earth filling. The altar has been set up on a small raised part with a cloud shaped platform internally lit and supported by four steel columns, which are 12 metres high with about 1,600 lamps. The whole lighting of the area is guaranteed by 575 reflectors, by 150 candles which are 1 metre and a half in diametre together with 800 thousand small candles for the participants. No less impressive is the sound thanks to 20 kilometres of luminous cables; there are 100 loud-speakers. To quench the thirst of the young people, the Organisation has created 5 supply points fed by 30 kilometre long pipes. 13 kilometre long fences have been put up to mark the boundaries with signs. There are also first aid points and loos. Other facilities include catering points. Lastly, there are symbols, in particular 27 lit up columns (from 8 to 16 metres big) which represent all the German dioceses.
