XX WYD: THE VIGIL WITH THE YOUNG. BENEDICT XVI, IT IS NOT IDEOLOGIES THAT SAVE THE WORLD, BUT ONLY TURNING TO GOD (4)

"One can find many faults with the Church – continued the Pope as he neared the end of his speech at tonight’s vigil in Marienfeld -. We know that, and the Lord Himself told us: it is a net with good fish and bad fish, a field with wheat and darnel". And then he added at once: "After all, the fact there is darnel within the Church is reassuring. So, with all our faults, we still can hope we are still in the wake of Jesus, who called just the sinners. The Church is like a human family but at the same time it is also the great family of God, through which He forms a space of communion and unity across all continents, all cultures and all countries. Therefore, we are glad we belong to this big family; we are glad we have brothers and sisters and friends all over the world. We feel it just here, in Cologne, how nice it is to belong to a family as large as the world, which includes the sky and the earth, the past, the present and the future and all the parts of the earth. In this big party of pilgrims, we walk together with Christ, we walk with the star that lights history".
