XX WYD: DON GIULIETTI (CEI), HOLINESS, BELONGING TO THE CHURCH AND THE FACT OF HAVING A MISSION. DIRECTIONS THE POPE GAVE YOUNG PEOPLE

The cross-reference to holiness, the urgency to feel one belongs to the Church and the fact of having a mission. According to Don Paolo Giulietti, who is in charge of the Italian Bishops’Conference Service (CEI) for pastoral youth care, these are some of the main themes which emerged from the 20th WYD. On outlining the situation for Sir, Don Giulietti said: "The call to holiness, as the Pope repeated, refers to true inner renewal. Young people have understood that the real revolution is to turn to God. And this is the only way to change the world". Another "strong" message which emerged from the German WYD, according to Don Giulietti, was "the importance of feeling one belongs to the Church. Belonging to the Church and, therefore, to the ecclesial community is fundamental in the journey of faith. The Pope invited young people not to seek ideal communities but to take their contribution to the one they are living in. Likewise, he invited the movements and the new ecclesial groups to live the ecclesial dimension without parallel paths". (continued)
