XX WYD: THE MARIENFELD MASS. BENEDICT XVI, SHOW YOU WANT TO STRIVE FOR A BETTER WORLD

"The transformation of violence into love, of death into life", as carried out by Jesus, "entails more transformations": the first one is that "we become one". The subject of unity has been resumed, once again, by Pope Benedict XVI in the homily of the final Mass (unabridged text on www.vatican.va) of the XX World Youth Day, now under way in Marienfeld. God, added the Pope, must be the "measure" of our actions. "Freedom – he said – does not mean enjoying life, considering oneself perfectly independent, but behaving according to the measure of truth and goodness, to become true and good ourselves". It is the Eucharist that "pulls us into" "the transformation process": so, underlined the Pope, "the Eucharist must become the centre of our life". "It’s nice that today, in many cultures, Sundays are days off, or, along with Saturdays, actually make up a whole weekend to spare", but which remain empty "if God isn’t in them". (to be continued)
