The basic question of the Psalm, said the Pope, is: "Why does God takes care of and worry about such a wretched and short-lived creature?” A question that is “answered by the grand irruption of God”. Then, the Pope quoted the comment to the Psalm that was made in the past by Origen, highlighting the psalmist’s words about the "weakness of the body and the human condition", because "as to the human condition, man is nothing”. The Pope highlighted man’s "surprised and grateful question”: “‘Lord, what is man that You have shown Yourself to him?’… Great happiness for man, knowing his own Maker. In this, we are different from wild beasts and other animals, because we know we have our own Maker, while they do not'”. In his welcome address in Italian, the Pope greeted the delegates of the Italian Federation of Therapeutic Centres, which celebrates its 25th anniversary, the group of Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi and the young from Movimento dei Focolari.
