THE POPE AT ANGELUS: AN APPEAL FOR MIGRATION, “OVERCOMING ANY FORM OF DISCRIMINATION", "FULL ACKNOWLEDGEMENT" OF CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Overcoming "any form of discrimination, injustice and contempt of human beings, because every man is the image of God". This was asked by Pope Benedict XVI as he recalled, after the Angelus, that yesterday the Church celebrated the World Day of Migrants and Refugees. "Migrations – he said – are a widespread phenomenon in this day and age: they are a ‘sign of the time’. This phenomenon takes many different forms: migration can be voluntary or forced, legal or clandestine, driven by work or study. While we advocate respect for ethnic and cultural diversity, problems with reception and integration remain”. Hence Benedict XVI’s invitation to grasp "the positive that this sign of the time bears with it".Still in the greetings that he gave in Italian, the Pope recalled that yesterday the diocese of Rome celebrated the Catholic School Day. Benedict XVI asked that "the service ensured by Catholic schools should be fully acknowledged". Then, addressing himself to the teachers, parents and students that were in Saint Peter’s Square, he urged them to conduct "a full education" by joining "the quality of learning with the Christian conception of man and society”.
