MEDIA: MSGR FOLEY (HOLY SEE), CREATING A “FORUM” FOR THE CATHOLIC TV NETWORKS IN THE WORLD, “QUALITY” AND “NETWORK-WORKING” ARE THE PRIORITIES

Creating a “forum” for the Catholic TV networks in the world, encouraging the Catholic television “to become the nervous system of the Church”, capable of “fostering information” about the Church. Today, this proposal was launched by Monsignor John Patrick Foley, while he welcomed the participants in the second meeting of the Organization Committee for the Catholic TV Networks World Congress. According to the exponent of the Vatican, “one of the problems of the world is that – thank God – there are lots of Catholic television initiatives, but quite often there are not enough resources to make the programmes; there are neither the financial means nor the specialized staff to keep them operating”. Therefore, for the Holy See Ministry, “answering the requests coming from all over the world, in relation to the creation of a forum to plan coordination and collaboration (and also foster their implementation), would be a good idea”. “If our efforts are scanty and scarcely professional, what we believe in may seem of little value and, as a paradox, we will force God to cut a poor figure”, warned Foley, inviting Catholic TV networks to try “to achieve the best quality”. “There is no other sector like the TV sector needing a network – concluded Foley. – The whole world must be offered common programming; professional training must be proposed on a worldwide basis; ideas and programmes must be shared”.
