ECUMENICAL ASSEMBLY: MGR. GRAB (PRESIDENT OF CCEE), "DIALOGUE" IS NOT A "COMPROMISE"

“A dialogue taken for compromise is not a real dialogue. The time has come to analyse what dialogue is and above all how it relates to truth”. In his introduction to the meeting, due to open in Rome today, of the delegates of the Churches, Bishops Conferences, Ecumenical communities and bodies of Europe – the first step towards the European Ecumenical Assembly(Eea3) of Sibiu (Romania) in 2007 – the president of Ccee (Council of European Bishops Conferences), mgr. Amédée Grab, laid down a few guidelines: "It is very dangerous to stay in conflict: identity or dialogue; truth or dialogue; truth or love. We cannot delude ourselves that we, with our means, can carry on the ecumenical journey. But everything is possible for the Resurrected”. “The Resurrected – stated Grab while reading once again the passage from the Gospel about the disciples of Emmaus – can heal our wounds. But for Him to work amidst us, in these days we need to listen to each other, to esteem each other, to understand each other, to question each other with that love that Christ has brought down on earth”. “The first step of the Ecumenical Assembly – he concluded – is entrusting communion between us with the plan to become a sound ecumenical network covering all our European countries and our communities”. During the works that will go on until January 27th, the delegates will also meet Benedict XVI (Thursday 26th January) while the day before at the Basilica of San Paolo fuori le mura they will pray the Vespers celebrated by the Pope to mark the end of the Week of Prayer for the Unity of Christians.
