The Bishop of Bolzano, Monsignor Wilhelm Egger, has been appointed president of the workshop, in Germany, which is taking care of the correction and the re-elaboration (from a scientific point of view) of “Einheitsübersetzung”, the official translation of the Bible supported by the Catholic Church in German-speaking countries. The piece of news was announced by the diocesan press office, which also recalled that Monsignor Egger was also president of the workshop for the official revision of the translation of the Bible into Italian, the CEI’s Bible, from 1991 to 1994. The bishops of all the German-speaking dioceses it is written in the note – entrusted the workshop with the task of revising the unitary translation. At the last minute, the evangelical church withdrew from the translation revision project. Apart from the Bishop of Bolzano, the workshop includes also the Archbishop of Salzburg, Alois Kothgasser, the Bishop of Erfurt, Joachim Wanke, as well as the auxiliary bishop of Basel, Martin Gächter. Over fifty revisers, consultants and exegetic experts are working on the translation revision of the text of the Bible. They will meet in Würzburg next February 9th, to coordinate works. The President of the German Bishops’ Conference, Cardinal Karl Lehmann, points out how the revision work “must be carried out in a moderate atmosphere, and must not lead to a translation to be placed side by side with the existing one”.
