According to frère Alois, nowadays the young "are not interested in the complex and difficult matters" which are raised by ecumenical dialogue. "The young have other matters to worry about he explains. Spiritual, existential matters. They wonder how faith can support their decisions. We have to connect these two worlds that are moving away from interest in ecumenism. Ecumenical dialogue has made a lot of progress, even if there are still many issues to be solved”. The expectations of the Community of Taizè in preparation of the Sibiu Assembly concern "finding inside that Christ unites us in a sort of spiritual ecumenism. The urgency now is to extend our faith. And this urgency is expressd today by all the Churches”. Frère Alois also said he is "very glad" of the subject of the first Encyclical of Benedict XVI: “It is a focal subject for the Christian religion, and a focal subject for today’s young generations as well, who wonder: what does love mean? What does loving mean? I am very glad of the way the Pope addressed the subject by explaining that eros and agape cannot be separated. It’s nice to recall this Christian message, which unfortunately has been neglected for such a long time”.
