” “The time when the images of the Vatican TV Centre "have been most widespread" across the world was during the transition between one pontificate to the next, from the death of John Paul II to the appointment of Benedict XVI to the papal throne. This was recalled by Father Federico Lombardi, director of the Vatican TV Centre, the Vatican Radio Station and the newsroom of the Holy See, as he spoke at the World Congress of Catholic TVs which is held in Madrid until 12th October. As he outlined a profile of the Vatican TV Centre (Ctv) since 1983 (the year it was founded) to date, the speaker highlighted that the Ctv is in charge of "serving all the TV bodies, without any distinction, from the large TV agencies to the national and private TVs of any part of the world", so as to provide, through TV images, "the widest dissemination of information on the Catholic Church and the Pope’s activities". During the transition between the latest two pontificates, added Lombardi, "the images broadcasted by the Ctv reached every corner of the earth, with a coverage that received wide acclaim from the international TV world". Of course, the Ctv pays special attention to the Catholic TVs, with which it has "began to cooperate more widely over the last few years".” “
