” “Migration, the new and different insecurities, the relationship between the public and the private sectors: these are some of the issues that Europe will have to tackle through a more effective common policy. This remark was made today by the workgroups gathered at the Comece workshop (Commission of the EU Bishops Conferences) ending in Clermont Ferrand today in the run-up to the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome that Comece is going to celebrate next year with a meeting in Rome. Add to these challenges the confrontation between economic patriotism and shared development: "The former as a weapon often brandished by the authorities, the latter as a still fragile response of civil society". At the same time, they highlighted, "it is urgent to stop the deterioration of consensus and re-launch, on new cultural grounds, the relationship between citizens and public bodies, also considering that some weaknesses and gaps should not only be blamed on the leaders, because they are often the result of a widespread cultural crisis". "Before a complexity that does not give grounds for any pessimism or scepticism they insisted we must locate the most effective means and languages to create a stronger culture of sharing in the European countries". Finally, they concluded, quoting Jean Claude Junkers: "We must be proud to be European if many people die to reach this land in search of hope, but this is a pride that before so many tragedies must turn into responsible choices".” “
