EUROPE: DAVIS (COUNCIL OF EUROPE), “VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS INCREASING”

” ““Violations of women’s rights are still frequent, and have been increasing in some regions of Europe in the last few years”. Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, expressed alarm from Strasburg by showing a European campaign and a new website against domestic violence (www.coe.int/stopviolence/intergov). The site, available in English and French for now, “includes general information as well as the objectives of the campaign against violence at home”. There are links with other sites relating to the campaign, which intends to involve national, regional and local political exponents, as well as the civil society. The campaign also proposes “practical information concerning the subject of violence against women”. Documents and multimedia elements (photographs, audio and video kits) will be added to the site to foster the people’s sensitization all over Europe. “Moreover, – specified the promoters in Strasburg, – the site will include practical information relating to the official launch of the campaign, which will take place in Madrid on 27 November 2006”.
