EUROPE: A YOUNG POLE IS THE AUTHOR OF THE LOGO FOR THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF EEC

“The winning logo portrays the diversity and the strength of Europe and at the same time it highlights our continent’s longing for unity and solidarity”: the deputy president of the EU Commission, the Swedish Margot Wallström, comments the success of the competition promoted to select the graphic symbol of the celebrations for the fiftieth anniversary of the Treaties that established the EEC (25 March 1957). People in the institutional offices are developing some special initiatives while a summit has already been planned for that date in Berlin where the heads of state and government will issue a “declaration of intent” on the future of integration. The name of the winner, one of the 1701 young entrants from all the EU countries, was announced yesterday during a prize-awarding ceremony, held in Brussels. The author of the winning drawing is Szymon Skrzypczak, Polish, who received six thousand euros as a prize. Alejo Vidal-Quadras, deputy president of EU Parliament who chaired the panel of judges, stated: “The success of the competition all over Europe proves we have been right in placing our hope on the young, so that they will help us build the Europe of tomorrow”.
