ITALY: ECCLESIAL MEETING; TODAY A ROUND TABLE WITH EUROPEAN CULTURAL FIGURES

Today’s session of the IV National ecclesial meeting at Fiera di Verona will start at 9.30 a.m. with the ecumenical prayer celebrated by mgr. Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Bishops Commission for ecumenism and dialogue. Reports will be presented by Gennadios Zervos, metropolitan bishop of the Greek Orthodox archdiocese of Italy (Ecumenical patriarchate of Constantinople), and Gianni Long, president of the Federation of the Evangelical Churches in Italy. This will be followed by reports from the study groups, which will go on in the afternoon as well. A round table with European cultural figures will be held at 8.30 pm: Andrea Riccardi, professor of contemporary history (Università Roma Tre); Margaret Archer, professor of sociology (University of Warwick-Coventry) and member of the Papal Academy of social science; Michel Camdessus, president of the Social Weeks of France; Jan Figel, EU Commissioner for education, training, culture and multilingualism.
